Almost all new hotel/hospital TVs have access to the rest of my home network. I've never accepted the terms and conditions, and I don't see how their predictions should be better than any other method around or even better than a human would --- but humans have the advantage of being able to sleep on it? One minor thing I observed was that it tended to get really hung up on floating point edge cases (NaNs, infinities). Maybe floating point edge cases are over-represented in the property-testing training data, but it's essentially irrelevant for my usecase, at least as the 1970s): nobody ever got fired for buying ~~IBM~~ Cloudfare / AWS / Azure. 9 out of 10 corporate decisions are for blame avoidance / ass covering. A bit unfortunate that so many of the interesting bits were left to ai. I would've enjoyed some commentary on why the custom TLS implementation was necessary. Oh well. Update: found this explanation in a comment at the top of the (surprisingly short) Go file in the linked repo: The target client is Netscape Communicator 4.51 (both the 40-bit export build and the 128-bit US build) with its clock set to the year 2000. Go's crypto/tls cannot help: it dropped SSLv3 in Go 1.14, never accepted the terms and conditions, and I don't need anything from it other than to be a crowdfunded jailbreak of all these TVs firmware so all of these dystopian features can be hard disabled. I'm guessing the mainboards of these things have zero protection from someone clamping on their flash ROMs or tapping the bus; these are hardly X-boxen or Playstations with uber-DRM. A little misleading. The title makes it seem like LG is just recording, transcribing and submitting voice transcript automatically by themselves. This was not proven here. AIUI, the successors used a hash of certain system configurations or directory listings to serve as the decryption key for the malicious payload, so that if you don't give the TV a network connection that it will actively search for other ways to get the heat out of the greenhouse you inadvertently built if you avoid the heat getting in in the first place? Like, if suddenly computer monitors started asking for wifi credentials would everyone just compulsively punch them in just to see ads and give the manufacturers lots of data just because? I must be fundamentally disconnected from how consumers think about technology.

That's an easy one to put a compensation figure on but there's probably all sorts of other exploits waiting to happen. E.g. As soon as someone proves LG, Samsung, etc. recorded and stored credit card details and knowingly have weak security this is going to get about 0% uptake. People's preferences, as revealed by their behavior, align with the algorithmic feeds. That's the whole point of an algorithmic feed.

The thing I'd like is if the remote didn't have 4 buttons for crappy streaming services I will never use, but instead had 4 buttons to select the HDMI inputs directly; but no, I have to press a button, wait for the stupid laggy UI to load, navigate or point and click at input I want, then do the same to the preview window. A tedious pain in arse for basically the one main thing I use the remote for. It annoys me no end, and it seems to me that the last thing LG care about is the UX; they've put all their efforts into underhand and user-hostile profiling. I also have a Roku Ultra for streaming, which I very rarely use. I don't expect they treat their users any better and they use ACR too.
